Live in Companion - Free Rent in the Upper East Side

A young man with a great sense of humor who loves to cook and is an avid sports fan is seeking a roommate to share his two bedroom apartment in the Upper East Side. An ideal roommate will be warm and outgoing and will share the young man's passion for getting together with friends. The roommate will help him create a comfortable, safe and structured home by providing consistency and stability. 

In addition to free rent, utilities and a stipend for grocery shopping, the roommate will also be compensated for 15 - 20 hours of community habilitation work a week. The individual has a history of physically aggressive behavior, so experience working with individuals who have been physically aggressive a plus. Staff must be comfortable and prepared to clean bodily fluids (fecal/urine)

Roommate is required to sleep at the apartment at least five nights a week. Hours as Community Habilitation staff may vary depending on the needs of the individual – could occur in the morning and/or evenings.

Compensation: Staff will earn $25 an hour as community habilitation staff. Free rent and board (grocery shopping stipend and utilities). 

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Assisting with laundry, shopping, meal preparation, budgeting and housekeeping (household chores, simple maintenance – changing lightbulbs, etc)
  • To assist him in becoming involved in community activities and in developing friendships with neighbors and community members
  • Completing time sheets and monthly summary notes 

Qualifications and Benefits: 

Minimum education experience – high school degree. Prior experience with adults with disabilities a plus. Work/Life Assistance Program (EAP), ability to contribute to pre-tax commuter and medical FSA plans, 403b pension with employer match after two years of employment
