Direct Support Professional - Must Love Dogs

Location: New York, NY

Department: Westside Connections

Type: Part Time to Full Time

Min. Experience: Student (College)

The goal of the Westside Connections program is to develop a combination of individualized residential supports and community connections that will enable young people to thrive in their own homes while ensuring that they have the stable, long-term assistance that will put their parents’ minds at ease. Young people live in their own apartments, some with roommates, within proximity to one another. The aim is to facilitate strong connections among group members and the larger community.

Job Path is looking to hire a Direct Support Professional who will enjoy working with a woman who is incredibly witty, funny and a bit sassy. She is interested in working with someone who will help her to carefully expand her social and independent life.

If you enjoy spending time with people who are funny, have a bit of a chip on their shoulder, this could be the job for you. However, you must also love dogs (she has an adorable pug), enjoy cooking, and take your scheduled shifts very seriously (lateness is a big no-no).

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following tasks:

  • Cooking and helping to keep her apartment clean – she loves to cook food for the week, including dinner and dessert
  • Travel assistance – she is hesitant but excited to explore NYC a little more. However, due to her hearing impairment, she prefers to travel to new places with staff
  • Money management – she is working hard on saving her money and enjoys finding new ways to save
  • Taking classes together – she is interested in signing up for cooking classes and art classes
  • Completing case notes and written monthly summary notes by assigned deadline
  • Completing time sheets on a biweekly basis
  • Following up with required documentation as detailed by your supervisor
  • Meeting with Director periodically for open communication

Salary: $20/hour

Qualifications: Minimum education experience – college degree or currently enrolled in college.

Benefits: Work/Life Assistance Program (EAP), ability to contribute to pre-tax commuter and medical FSA plans, 403b pension with employer match after two years of employment

Health, dental, and enhanced short term disability insurance available to employees who average 28 hours of work per week after a six month measurement period.
